About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the time when the narrator was a young child. The narrator tells us that back then, he was scared and didn't want to be a slave. He was afraid that if he died, he'd be eaten alive. Now that he's a young adult, he realizes that it's better to die than be a "beast slave" . He tells the story of how, when he was a child, he used to think that it would be better for him to die in a "colosseum" , rather than be treated as a human being. Now, he thinks, it might be better to be treated like a beast. He asks the narrator to tell him how kind she's been to him, and the narrator tells him that she has given him food and clothes and healed him. He also tells the narrator that he is now his slave, and that he has already done the same thing to him before. He says that he doesn't think the narrator is different from other slaves, but that giving him food or clothes isn't enough to make him a different person. He's not joking when he said he was going to be his "sex slave," and that's why he wants to break him up. He warns the narrator not to worry about the fact that Eve is trying to scare him, because Eve is already afraid to death. He wants Eve to do what a beast slave should do. He presses her tail, and she responds by turning around. She's so soft that it
