About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a description of Tong's mysterious woman, who is also known as the "Mysterious Woman" . The woman introduces herself as "Jesus" , and the two men converse about Tong. Tong introduces himself as "wan tang," and the men discuss the baozi that they serve to their students. The men tell Tong that they have been eating baozi for over ten years, and that they still don't have enough of it. They explain that Tong used to be their student, and they used to take him to the canteen to eat. After his grandparents died, Tong became a student at the county high school, and so they both quit their jobs as teachers to open their own baozi stall. After Tong went to university, they moved to the city, where they opened their own shop. They discuss how Tong has been trying to convince them to leave their jobs to inherit her shop, and how they are both "nice kids" who have chosen to become detectives instead of teachers. They also discuss the incident of the severed finger case, which reminds them of each other.
