This chapter opens with a flashback to the first chapter, in which Torikai defeats George in a round of somen-eating. This time, however, he's using the food that he beat George with in the first round as a weapon to defeat George in the second round. The narrator tells us that the food is "somen noodles" and that they're using dashi broth instead of water for the competition. To make it look like George's loss was a fluke, the narrator says, they decided to use somen noodles to show off torikai's "right" and "correct" behavior. They're also using somen to prove to George that his loss was just a fluke and that he'll have to do it again.
