About This Chapter
In this short scene, Toriko and her friend, Mariane, exchange greetings as they wait for the new year to arrive. Mariane is disappointed that her friend's New Year's card has not yet arrived, but she is happy to hear that it has arrived. She also wishes that she had received it earlier, as there is still a New Year Lottery attached to the card. She asks Mariane to pass the time by writing a greeting to her friend while she is listening to the New Year bell. When Mariane asks if there is a tradition to visit a shrine in her town, she is told that there is one. She is also told that the shrine has a line to enter, and she is excited to be able to throw a coin into the shrine's wish-ing box. When she asks if she has already made her wish, she says that since she started school, she has lost twice and won seven times. She wishes that if she can throw the coin in, her wish will be fulfilled. When they arrive at the shrine, they are surprised to find that they have not yet visited together since Mariane's first year in school. They are both happy to see each other, and Mariane says that she has made a gift for her friend: a gift strap for her new year card.
