About This Chapter
The narrator asks the protagonist if she's going to tell the audience that she loves him. The protagonist says that she doesn't know. She's not interested in him, she says. The narrator tells the protagonist that it's okay to fall in love, because you'll just do whatever he says, even if it means that you're going to be disliked. She says that's the way it is in the masochistic world, where you've got to be willing to do whatever a guy says to you in order to get what he wants. She also says that if a guy does mean things to her, she'll believe him, even though he might be mean to her in the real world. This is the first time the protagonist has heard this line of thinking. She tells the narrator that she'd better be careful about going home, because the guy is acting like a jerk all the time. She asks the narrator if there's anything else she needs to fix with the guy, and the narrator says that the guy just acted like he'd been acting all day. He's acting like he wants her to do, and she can't stand up for herself. She laughs at the idea that she still hasn't learned the lesson she learned from the previous guy. She thinks maybe she should go out with the other guy.
