This chapter opens with a description of the flower-diffusion valley, where Lin has sent hundreds of his men to spy on his enemies. Lin tells his men not to get involved in the fight, as the enemy is stronger than they are. He tells them to hold their breath, because the valley is poisonous and they almost all get caught in it. He then tells them that he has caught a poisonous insect and that he too has been caught in the valley. He says that he is afraid that the men have gotten stuck by the poisonous insects and that they will not be able to fight.
