The chapter opens with Hiroshi and his wife, Maruishi, arriving at the train station to pick up Hiroshi's luggage and take him to the gaisen training camp. Hiroshi tells the group that he has come to give them a "boost" since the store is closed for the day. He tells them that they will be staying in the second-floor rooms of the boarding house and that they should wake up early the next morning so that they can ride until 6 in the afternoon. The chapter ends with a soliloquy by Hiroshi in which he tells his wife that it is time to prove that she is a woman.
