About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator tells us that he's been living with Fudou for a while now. He's decided to go out for a date with the guy he hates, and he wants to make sure that he doesn't look like a total creep. He wants to know if there's anything he can do to make him feel better. He asks if he can buy a necklace, and the narrator says no, but he'll wait until he gets to the toilet. The narrator says that he hasn't been alone this whole time, and that he used to be hurt or lonely, but now he feels better. The scene ends with the narrator telling us that she's going to the shrine to see if she can find something to smile about. She wants to be able to say something to make herself feel better, and she wants the narrator to be truthful. She says that she likes the part of her where she is true to herself. She tells the narrator that the flight to Fukuoka has not yet departed, so she'll have to wait until she gets there. She also tells him to close his eyes for a moment, because she was looking at the shrine the other night, and it's time for her to leave. She's still lonely, she says, but she hopes that if she leaves a good record, she can come back earlier. She asks if the guy is working hard, too, and if he has finished with his work. He says he is, and they'll call again.
