About This Chapter
The next morning, Dr. Rivers is surprised to see how quickly Rosa fell asleep. He wonders why her body temperature is dropping so quickly. He asks her why she is so cold. She tells him that she is not giving her coat to him, but telling him to come over and help her. Rivers asks if she has calmed down. She says she is holding onto her so she cant run away. She asks him why he came to the battlefield to die. He says that he could have easily taken his own life, but that it is his duty as a physician to protect the lives of others. He adds that if it were in the battlefield, it would not be uncommon for him to die while fulfilling his duty. He thinks that Rosa had her circumstances, but he finds her sympathy very unpleasant.
