About This Chapter
The next morning, Renfield asks Renfield if she's slept. Renfield says she wasn't, and Renfield wonders why she didn't wake up earlier. He's surprised that Renfield hasn't been able to sleep, because he's so excited about getting out of the hospital and getting ready for battle. He tells Renfield that he might have held the line of battle, but the Imperials have been shelling the troops hard, keeping them from advancing. He says that he'd been waiting for orders from command, but they haven't come yet. He also says that the medical officer has been taking care of him very well for the past three days. She's been more polite to Renfield than she was to him before, which Renfield thinks is a good thing. He wants to go home, but Renfield tells him not to worry, he'll come back when Renfield's all better. She says that she won't be a bad girl tonight, but that she'll have to get up to something before she can go home. She notices that the smell of alcohol is making her nose sting, and she wonders what's in the medicine locker. It's a leash, chain, whip, and a "swelling it" .
