In this chapter, we learn that Mr. Tang, the vice president of the hospital, has been promoted to the rank of vice president. We learn that this promotion has come at the expense of his younger brother, Fatty, who was promoted to vice president earlier in the chapter. Fatty has been trying to buy some jade from Mr. Kong, but Mr. Ming, the pawnbroker, refuses to sell it.
