In this chapter, we learn that the young man's luck has gone up again, and that he's lucky to be alive. He's also glad that his father isn't going to be hurt, because it's going to make things worse for him. The young man is all, "Gee, it looks like I'm going to have to suffer the consequences of my bad luck" , and he doesn't want to be a victim of his father's bad luck. He wants to live a normal life, but he can't be bullied and arrogant like his father is. He tells his father that he has a minor injury, so they can go off to the hospital together.
