In this chapter, the Underground Man tries to convince the gang to break out of hiding. He tells them that their lives are in his hands now, and he has one hour to give them their passwords and bank account numbers. He warns them that they will not be able to hand over their money until the police have arrived. The Underground Man tells the gang that he has enough money to get them out of there, but they only have a single life to live.
