About This Chapter
The narrator apologizes for his rudeness to the inspector. He admits that he acted without thinking of the inspector's feelings. The narrator tells the inspector that all the drinks he's bought him will serve as bribes to delay the police investigation. He also tells the story of how he met the murderer. An acquaintance of his thought that the murderer would pique his interest and introduce him to him. Did the murderer always commit random homicide? The narrator says that the murder was a dangerous thing for the murderer because it involved a romantic interest. He says that he had no intention of reporting the murderer to the police because he was too rare to do so. He adds that he thought that if he manipulated the murderer, he would be able to make him believe that they were no longer in a relationship. He asks the inspector to give him more time.
