In this chapter, the reader is introduced to a new character, a young man named tater otte. He is the son of a police officer who was murdered in the line of duty. The young man is very fond of his father, and he asks his father if he would like to have dinner with him. When the young man replies that he would, the boy asks if he looks like a man who would refuse such an invitation. The boy says that he loves being invited, and that if he thinks he is, then he is dead wrong. He then asks if his father has found out about his father's job, and the boy says he has no idea how his father found out, but that his father wants him to send him his best regards
