About This Chapter
When the narrator asks what he wants to be when he grows up, the child replies that he's fast, so he can be an athlete or a teacher. He's also smart, which means he could be a doctor or a schoolteacher. The child then asks his parents if they've already said goodbye to him and his siblings. When the father says that he doesn't like the people who live in the orphanage, the boy says that if he didn't come to live with them, he'd run away and take advantage of his mother. The father replies that the child is just like him, and that he has a future and a lot of potential. He says that it took him a long time to get his wife to accept him as her family, but now that she has accepted him, he can't go back to them.
