About This Chapter
Back at the castle, the three swords watch the battle from a distance. They hear strange noises, but they haven't yet run into danger. The three swords tell each other to go ahead and follow the other's lead, as they've covered a good portion of the distance. As they do so, they hear the sounds of the undead hunting for prey. They run away, and the undead curse their brother for being so treacherous. They burn down the weeds, and curse the bastard. The bastard says that he's been gone a long time, and that he snuck away from his father's side. He thanks his brother for destroying another palace, and thanks his father for taking him under his control. He's going to be a disciple of his father once the other palace is destroyed, and he says that thanks to his father, he'll be able to do so as well. His father is back, and says that his son is a great warrior. He tells his son that the lord arbiter wants him to become his disciple. He asks him to come with him to meet the arbiter for an initiation ceremony. He says that once he becomes a disciple, he will be on his way to the highest place in the world. The swords go back to wait for the announcement, and then the swords go off to have some wine. The wine is called "the thunder liquid," and it's a specialty of the underworld. It's the same wine that's used to quench the spirits of the dead. The narrator says that this wine is "more enjoyable than my Master's thunder-quenching wine!" .
