The next morning, Mr. Xing wakes up to find that his adopted son has gone to the city to seek out his father. He is horrified to find out that his son has left for the city and that his father has no idea about his son's whereabouts. Mr. Xing tells his son that he does not want his son to see his father, because everything between them is over. He also tells him that he has no interest in bringing his son back because he is afraid of what will happen to him if he is found out. The two men continue to argue about the meaning of love, and it becomes clear that Mr. and Mrs. Xing do not share the same feelings for one another.
