This chapter's epigraph comes from a conversation between Lin-xin's uncle, Ming-lu, and Lin-lu's wife, Madame Bovary. The two of them discuss the fight that's been going on between Lin and his nephew, and they decide that they'll have to guard the door even more since Lin's family is fighting for him. Lin-Lu is worried that his nephew is in poor health, so he's going to have to get a doctor's opinion before he can go back to his family's house. He's also worried about the fact that his wife is trying to keep the whole thing a secret.
