About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Dorotea is the daughter of King Amaltea, who is also the father of Prince Ossian, the Duke of Brabant. The two of them live together in the castle of Brabant, in the province of Brabant in the north of France. The King and Queen of Brabant live in the same castle, but they are separated by a river called the River Brabant, which divides them into two parts: the northern part, which is ruled by the King and his wife, and the southern part, ruled by his wife and her husband. This river separates the two kingdoms, and it is the river that separates Brabant from the kingdom of Ossian. In this passage, the King tells his daughter that she is his firstborn, and therefore the rightful heir to the throne and land. He tells her that she must marry a prince to inherit his throne and lands, and that she should not be forced to marry a stupid prince. She tells her father that she does not want to be "forced" to rescue a "stupid prince," and she tells him that she will not be compelled to marry "some stupid prince" because she is free to do what she wants. She says that a woman has "got to do" what a woman "has got to do," and that this is her chance to prove herself. She asks her father if he is waiting for her, and he says that he is. He asks her if she is "waiting for a bunch of knights" and she says that they are not following her. She then tells him to go get some food, and then she says she is out on a "quest" to find a "small" prince in need. She also says that she knows where to find such a prince, and she will help her find him.
