About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Eliot's father's "bliss" is buried in the swamp. Eliot tells us that he's filling in some of the "empty" with his own memories. He tells us how he got into the business of making people forget their past. He and his partner came across a "minion" , who told them about a river of bliss that was ready to "make people forget all of the things they" were. Eliot says that he and his partners made their way to the river, but she was asleep. They told her they were business partners, waiting for the "shipment of her bliss" . When the humans tasted the bliss, they asked Eliot to keep feeding them his "addiction." Eliot wonders if the "criminal" is really hooked on the bliss. He says that there was a "treatment center" where people who had "done the unimaginable" came to bring back their memories. Eliot asks if the memories are coming back, and he says that's up to the person who wants to bring them back. He asks if he really wants to be married, and if he'd like to learn from davis, who's been at the "memory palace" for a while. He wonders if maybe it would be better if he just died. Eliot knows that his mother would be proud of him, but he doesn't know how to pay for it yet. He wants to leave a note for his mom, and then he can dig up a new Eliot, who hasn't seen her father in a long time. Eliot reminds himself that things can get better.
