About This Chapter
In this short scene, the father and son discuss the events of the previous day. The father tells his son to close his eyes and not to shoot him. The son tells his father that he bought him a compass to help him find his way back to civilization. He tells the father that there is a part of him that he loves and that he is the one who is lost. He asks the father to bring his son inside and turn on the furnace so that he can get him to "sweat." The father says that the son is like a turtle, hera, and that his father needs bliss. He says that he was just "shame and regret." The son says that shame is not something "us gods have." He leaves and the father tells him that they can learn from listening to his delusional son defending the bone bag. He hopes that the father is his father, as he is proud of himself and not proud of having his son defend him. He wishes that his son would take him to his mother and tell her how he stopped her. He then tells the son that he will marry him as soon as he's back from war. He also says that even though the father knows he will die, he will try to make things right. He compares the father of the son to a monster who "did great things."
