About This Chapter
Mito asks him what he's doing, and Mito replies that he just wants to get his vaccinations. Mito says that one of his ancestors died when he was preparing for something, and then forgot about it. He compares this to looking in his rearview mirror and then getting into an accident. He says that the bright yellow paint at bus stops is slippery, and that his prepa ration is back fired. He also says that he doesn't understand why people say things like this all the time, but he thinks that it's because they're afraid of what they'll do if they don't do something. He adds that he'll be wasting his entire day ahead of schedule just to avoid having to be late. He's also worried about what the ac committee will do to him if he doesn--he's never spoken a word of Japanese before. He tells Mito that there's no wrong with preparing, and losers need to be prepared more than anyone. He points out that Mito used to say that plenty of his favorite times were not studied at all, so that he wouldn't be hurt when he failed his entrance exam. He then says that if he had to pick a team to play in a video game, he'd pick a weak team. He thinks that Japan's loss at the World Cup would have been less humiliating if it had been played against a team that was prepared for its loss.
