About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by a young man named Azon. Azon tells the reader that he is making d'jinshi, a Japanese art form, and that he wants to make copies of his latest works to share with his friends and family. He asks the reader not to tell anyone that he has seen the works, since he has already seen them, but he does not want anyone to be ashamed. He tells Azon that the work he is doing is not a hobby, but that it is part of his school, the Asukaga School of Art. The young man asks Azon to take a picture of him and his friend, Rurouni Kenshin, and to pose for them. He wants to take one too, but the young man is not willing to do so because he is afraid that he will not be able to make a living as a writer. He also wants to draw, but Azon refuses to accept anything other than manga, in four panels, because it drives him crazy. He begs Azon not to take him to the manga, but to set his sights on the "manga koshien," or the art of drawing, and not to mention the fact that the summer vacation is upon them.
