About This Chapter
The next morning, Hirokazu begins to talk to his son-in-law, saying that he'd like to go to the amusement park with his father and his grandson. He's worried that they'll get sick, but he promises to go anyway. When he gets home, however, he realizes that he can't go because he's been preparing for the worst. He apologizes, but says that he doesn't have the courage to tell anyone about it. He tells his father that he will be home the day before he promised to go, but that he won't tell anyone. He asks his father not to blame Joro for this, because Joro also found the reanimation to be painful. Joro gave up his research because he didn't want to eat it all down to the bone marrow, which is the "unvarnished truth" of the matter. He wanted to keep all of the memories they had together.
