In this chapter, we learn that a European missionary brought a dessert called "castella" to Japan as a gift from the kitchen of the "kitchen princess" , a 16th-century Japanese woman named "Najika" . Although the dessert looks pretty, it's not quite as good as the one made by the "chef" in the first round of the competition. We learn that the dessert's theme is "a dessert that stimulates five senses" and that the five participants will advance to the second round to compete for the grand prize. We also learn that this is the first time that we've seen the protagonist's father, Kishimoto , and that he's impressed with his daughter's skill in baking.
