About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Enoshima, in which he laments the fact that the protagonist is so devoted to the idea of reforming the world. Enoshima says that he once thought that stasis might be a good idea, but that it would lead to endless power struggles and "ever-growing pile of corpses" . Now, he says, he finds it "boring" and that he will become an "observer and bear witness" to the fate of humanity. He asks Enoshima if he can stay out of society's affairs at this point, since he did not finish the job he started on Minasuka. He tells him that he thought that he would weigh the body parts to see how much they would weigh. If not, he will "just bleed out," he says. He then tells Enoshima that his arm has been chopped off, and he asks him if he wants him to owe him anything. He says that if he gets to a hospital, the doctors will be able to reattach his arm as long as he is all right. He wonders why he didn't chase after them, and wonders if he is taking extra precautions around the group. When he hears that shiomi has found the blood, Enoshima thinks that they must have the stone, but he says that they hid it under the noses of the others. If everything goes as planned, the owner of the blood will be kicked off of stasis.
