About This Chapter
When he's ready to go to the gym, the narrator says, he can't do it because everyone else makes it look easy. He tries to practice on his own, but it's too hard. He asks himself, "Why am I the only one? Who couldn't be sorry?" The narrator says he never thought he would see the day he would be a part of a sports club, especially not at school. The day he signed up, the club had them run a hundred shuttle-runs. The captain, Mizuki, says, "Oh yeah, I told him I wanted to stay" . Mizuki then turns around and helps the narrator train. The narrator goes to ask Mizuki why he chose him, and Mizuki tells him, "That's for you to know and to find out." Mizuki says he'll never forget that night, when he and the captain had to sit out the game because the other players were so good. The two of them thought, "I wish he would switch me out already!" , but then the narrator collapses on the pitch and gets pulled from the game.
