The chapter opens with a discussion between Lin Ling and his sister-in-law. Lin Ling tells her that if she doesn't become his wife, she'll be like a mistress. She also tells her sister- in-law that she's still in love with her husband, but that he's a celebrity and can't be trusted to keep his affair a secret. He's also married with money in mind, so he'll throw her out of the house as soon as she grows old. Lin also warns her that there are women in the society who are married to gays, but the laws don't allow them to divorce their husbands now.
