About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between Lockwood and Lockwood's sister, Dinah. Lockwood is having trouble finishing his half-finished school project, and Dinah is worried about his sister's health. She tells Lockwood that she is welcome to join them in the city of Megiddo, where the female sect is based. Lockwood wonders what ails Dinah, but Dinah assures him that they are all there to find someone important to her. She reminds him that those they love are never dead, but that their presence in their minds makes them feel like they are alive. She also tells him that she cannot stay with Dinah because she cannot bear to leave her, but she knows when something is "deeply wrong." Lockwood wonders if they will look for a new human agent to replace Dinah.
