Back at the palace, Madame Bovary greets her lady back. She's glad to see her, since she's been cooped up in her room for the past few days. She tells her that she met the King, the Crown Prince, the Queen, and the Queen's niece. She asks if they look like they're having an affair, and she says that they do. She also asks if she is the mother of one of the King's sons, because the Crown prince looks exactly like the Queen. She says that's because the Queen is the same height as the crown prince, and because they both have the same positions in the palace. She then asks if there's any bread crumbs on her face
