About This Chapter
In this short scene, the protagonist complains to himself about the indecisiveness of the protagonist's friend, the manager of a department store. The protagonist tries to convince the manager to teach him how to swim, but the manager refuses, saying that the protagonist is wearing too little clothing. When the protagonist asks the manager why he is wearing so little, he is interrupted by the manager's exclamation, "I don't need you to teach me to swim." The protagonist, however, is not laughing at the manager, but rather at himself. He is afraid that if the manager sees him like this, he will become a "dead octopus" . He decides to go to the newly-opened scenic area and find the toilet, where he was frightened the night before by the protagonist.
