In this short scene, Lu Qian, the son of a prison inmate, meets his father, who is serving a life term in prison for graft. The father is shocked to learn that his son is engaged to an eligible bachelor, who keeps a "low profile" in the gentry of the city. He is willing to help his son in any way he can, including proving his father's innocence, in exchange for marrying the eligible bachelor. The bachelor, however, has one request: he wants his son to bear him a child in two years. Lu says that this is a ridiculous request, as his father is still in prison. He says that he will not allow his own son to become illegitimate, and that they will get married the next day. Lu asks his father to sign a divorce agreement, but the father refuses, saying that it is the police's job to decide whether or not his son has committed a crime.
