In this chapter, we learn that the sention has sealed the chamber in which the human race lives, and that the inhabitants of this chamber must flee. The inhabitants of the chamber, however, do not understand the nature of their doom. They do not realize that the tower they are standing on is not merely a building, but a structure composed of life forms from all over the universe. Through the presence of these life forms, the nyu-trali have been able to offer their sanction, and have "sparked" the inner workings of the tower. The tower was constructed to keep the humans out of the gates of the universe, and the inhabitants are sorry to disappoint the gods who have always been their masters.
