About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator reflects on his life. If he had the chance, he would never have opened the letter from shishi, and he would not have come to the prince's mansion. He would not go there for the sake of having fun, he says, because he would have to think about where he is and where he belongs. He says, "this is literally using the power of my own inner force to help another pursue a girl" . Finally, some of the poison has come out, and the narrator feels that he is dying. He tells the doctor, yangchen, to wake up the patient before shishi's death so that they can deal with the rest of the problem. The narrator blames himself for everything that has happened, saying, "I was so stupid" , but he also blames chun-er for being so arrogant when she first came to the mansion. She has always looked down on him because he is a servant. He reminds her that when they were playing at her uncle's house, she fell because of his carelessness, and she ignored his mistakes and lived happily ever after. But since he was back at the mansion, she has gradually changed, sometimes being aggressive and sometimes being normal. He asks the young lady why she is running away at this hour. She looks like she is still a kid. He enters her memory. She asks him why he is crying.
