About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the narrator, in which he laments the fact that the people around him are so unreasonable. He says that he used to be so stupid to think that the girl in question was just her, but now he realizes that she is the heroine of the story. He hopes that she can overcome her feelings for the hero, and that he can learn from her experience. The narrator then goes on to say that the hero should not have interfered with the lovers' business, as it is indifferent to help the heroine knowing that she will be hurt.
