About This Chapter
Lingyan, the king of the western xia kingdom, greets his brother, the fourth brother of the kingdom, and asks him why he doesn't ask him first. He's supposed to be there to make peace, but he's not treated well in the kingdom. Lingyan says that the arrow that hit him during the journey had the word "sheng" on it, which means "savior" in Chinese. The fourth brother asks him what his opinion is on the matter, and Lingyan tells him that he'll go and get another cup of wine. He says that he knows how the royal brother got his hand on the marriage contract, and that he can't marry the princess as his wife. He wants someone else to marry him. The royal brother says he still has something important to attend to, so he won't be marrying the princess. He tells Lingyan that he has responsibilities as a prince and that the woman he proposes to be his wife should be someone of higher status. He rejects the proposal, and says that his heart belongs to Lingyan.
