The fox tells Biyuan that he will help him find the notebook that contains the new medicine that Biyuan's mother gave him. Biyuan is worried that the notebook is missing, and she rushes off to find it. The doctor, however, is still on the road, and Biyuan asks him to join them on their journey to meet with the fox. He asks the doctor if he has any money on him, and the doctor replies that he does, but that he would like to find out where the refugees came from and what the calamity they have suffered.
