The Governess and the Governess's servant, Biyuan cheng , are in the middle of a conversation when they hear the sound of a horse's hoof. The servant is horrified to discover that his horse has run away, and he demands to know what has caused the horse to lose its mind. Biyuan tells him that he has discovered that belladonna can be fatal in severe cases and that someone has added the drug to the horse-feed. He asks Biyuan if he knows what "belladonna" is, and the servant replies that he does, and that he had earlier discovered that someone had added it to his horse feed. He then tells Biyuan that he spoiled his plans when he accidentally broke the soup-pan.
