About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Major D is in the wilds of the Congo. He's led a band of soldiers to the jungle, but they can't find Major D because he's in the middle of nowhere. They're worried about him, though, because they've been spying on him for two weeks now. He tells us that he has gotten four psy-ops in two days, and they're telling him to chill out a bit. He says he'll go back to the trade-hut to get some more books. He also tells us about how he got a bunch of guys to go back into battle because they wanted to earn some money by playing holo games and buying a fancy new TV. He doesn't feel any terror at all, though. The guy who kidnapped him, he tells us, was a warrior named David, who used to kill people with his telepathy. David wants to know why he stayed in the jungle when he could have gone back to his old life in the state. He asks about David's name, and he says that he is a "warrior" who uses telepathy to "kill people" . David asks what he can tell him about David, and the guy says that his name is David. David tells him that he was both a big deal for electromedia and for killing people. David says that this is the first lesson he learned from the jungle. It's not heaven, but it's where we learn the things that we really want, like disease and crime. When we strip away what we were trained to love, what do we love?
