About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn the story of the drunk man who was invited to the emperor's house by his concubine. The drunk man explains that he was drunk the night before and wanted to spend some time with the emperor in his mansion. When he stumbled into the yard, he was so drunk that he couldn't even remember his name. The emperor, however, didn't want him in the house, so he invited his sister-in-law to come in and spend time with him. The drunken man, who has never met the emperor before, is grateful to his sister for bringing him into the house. He asks the emperor if he can go outside without his permission, and the emperor replies that he can only go outside if he has permission from his wife. He then tells the drunken man that he is not allowed to leave the carriage without his wife's permission. He tells the man that his wife ignored him for three days, and that he had sex with her that day and night. He also says that the wicked poison in his body has not completely disappeared from his body, so it's impossible to eat the food that the emperor has ordered him to eat. He adds that the lord is "so dazzling" that only a "noble person" like the princess's consort can make a match with the lord. He says that he still wants to get closer, but that he doesn't know how to do so. He wants to learn how to ride, but he knows that it is a dangerous sport, and he wants to do it safely. He tries to shake the concubines hand, but she tells him that he's making a "fool of himself" by trying to ride too fast. She then tells him to take the emperor back to his carriage, and she says that she wants to be close to him.
