About This Chapter
Sook Kim tells the court lady that she's too tense to play the drums. He's going to throw a gayageum at her, which is a traditional Korean percussion instrument. He wants her to protect him when he goes to the marketplace. He also tells her that he'll give her a big discount on the nyang, a unit of money. He says that anyone who takes bribes or pays for a job will be punished severely. He hopes that he can get rid of traitors from behind his back. The court lady says that she trusts the crown princess, and that she hasn't had a bad stretch or gotten drowsy in a long time. He asks her if she has ever had a good time. She says she has, and asks him to toss her out of the palace so she can live in a hut for a while. She also asks him if he thinks they should fill the throne seat that's been vacant for so long. He doesn't think they should.
