In this chapter, we learn that the young woman, who we now call "myounghyi," is on her way home from work. She is so upset that she can't stop crying. She tells us that she is on a bus and that she has to tell her story to her employer, who is also on the bus. The employer tells her that her mother's health has improved and that her father has lent money to some of his friends. The young woman tells the employer that she cannot sleep at her house because she is afraid that her husband will not like it when her friends sleep over. She also tells him that she was tricked by a pyramid scheme before this, and that it was a bad luck that she got tricked again. She says that she doesn't have the money to ask for a salary advance and that with a minimum-wage job like hers, it would be impossible to ask. She asks the employer if he would like her to send him a ring and a ring for her niece, and the employer replies that she should send it by courier. The girl says that the ring and the ring that her niece are wearing seem like thick iron plates, and she says that this is because she has lost her place in the world. She admits that she almost forgot everything about her life before this moment, but that she just needs to close her eyes and go in.
