About This Chapter
It's autumn, which means that it's time to go back to work. The narrator tells us that he has to work extra hours today because he's learning to speak some new languages. He also says that chan is trying to improve Lee's fluency in some of the other languages so that she'll be able to speak better in the future. He says that Lee is at a disadvantage because of her language skills, but that's because Mr. kang has been trying to take advantage of her. He's also the one who's been protesting chan's promotion to the director position, and the narrator points out that Mr. Kang is the only person who thinks this is a bad idea. He adds that the other workers like chan because he overcomes the discrimination. He doesn't think chan wants to be the director, though, because he thinks that the company will trust him. He explains that the reason the company didn't let chan go was because they wanted to use his other talents, like reading minds, and he was stuck at the company because he couldn't do anything else but read minds. He concludes that he can't understand why the company took so long to hire him, and that it was because chan thought they could trust him to do the job. A few days later there's a heavy rain, which makes it harder to get to work, so the narrator brings some extra clothes for chan to wear
