In this chapter, we learn that the woman who saw the vulture is planning to lure the vulture to her death by courting her. She will need the help of god to do this, but she is afraid that the city of Verona is full of "killers and sinners" who would have her head for pennies if they could afford it. She does not have "god" to save her, she says, and she will not cross his threshold. She has pictures of the vulture, but they are not good enough to convince her to go inside.
