In this chapter, we learn that the story of the book begins in February of this year, when a young artist named Benjamin ralph Kimlau goes to China to do a comic book project. While there, he runs into a rich young man named "rich young" who is a fan of the artist's work and is eager to help him with his project. The young artist tells the rich young that he is hungry for a project of his own and that he practices kung-fu, a martial art that teaches the arts of self-defense and self-possession. The rich young's enthusiasm for the project is so great that the young artist decides to go back to China and start his own comic book series.
