About This Chapter
In this chapter, Shmoop describes the challenges of running a comic book business. He tells us that he's not going to give up on delivering comic books to comic book stores. He's always been a big fan of Stephen King's work, but after giving the book a try, he decides that he doesn't want to continue working with him anymore. He also tells us about a plan he came up with for a publisher in France that would allow him to continue his comic book series. The publisher, however, didn't have the money to continue the series, so Shmo tried to get another artist to do the cover for the first issue. The artist, Ariel, couldn't complete the cover, and the whole thing ended up going bankrupt. In the meantime, the comic book store stopped buying the books, and Shmo had to cut back on the length of the book's run. Shmo says he'll try to improve the pacing of the next issue, since it's been a while since he'd been able to do so. He then goes on to tell us about how Charlie tried to cheat him out of a lot of money. She tried to use the money he gave her as leverage to bypass his share of the artists' royalties, and she also tried to bribe agents' girls to help her get more visas for her foreign artists. He says that this is typical of a Hollywood business deal, and that Charlie should be ashamed of herself for it. Then Shmo goes off on a rant about how he has been hiding in his office for three days, and how he hates the book store owners for threatening to kill him. Then he says that he knows a big fish when he sees one, and he kills a fish this week to prove his point. He compares the two of them to robbers, not murderers, and says that they'll never be hiss either.
