In this chapter, Nyx explains that he has been using magic to change the color of his clothes. He says that once he wears these clothes, he will be able to see that all the people who have used magic in the past have been traced back to the person who used the magic. Nyx wonders why the hermits are so terrifying. He wonders if they are responsible for protecting the humans in the dark. He fears that if they cannot kill them before they reach the city, they will become legends. When Nyx asks who the hermit is, he is told that he is a member of "suspicious nomenclature" who is trying to keep the mask on. He asks Nyx to help him take off the mask.
