About This Chapter
The narrator asks the young man if he wants to stay with him for a long time. The young man says he'll pay for the cell phone first, then the rent. The narrator says he doesn't want to be so angry. He says he just thinks the people around him are "mean and selfish" and that he's going to pay them back. He wants to go check out a book in the store, but he can't find it. He tells the narrator to buy the book himself and then lend it to him. He asks the narrator if he still has any friends, and the narrator tells him that he does. He then asks if they're still in touch, and they tell him that they've been shopping together. He suggests that they go to the bar together, but the narrator says that he won't be able to do that since he'd rather be in the middle of the road. He also says that if he asks them to go with him, they'll stop talking.
