In this chapter, the protagonist, the "space traveler," introduces himself to the audience. He tells them that he has won a gold medal at an amateur dance contest. He then introduces the protagonist's wife, Lingwei, and their son, poke. The protagonist tells the audience that the movie will begin at 7pm and end at 9pm, and that no recording of the event is allowed. He also informs the audience about the fact that the ship has only 6 percent of fuel left and that they will have to do an emergency space jump to get back to Earth. He says that the explosion will "refiner your escape pods" and that it is enough to get the protagonist and his wife to the nearest "escape pods" .
